Welcome to Our Lady of Guadalupe's Graduate Support!

By way of introduction: Our Lady of Guadalupe Middle School puts the expertise of its well-educated staff and supporters as well as its connections to quality secondary and higher education at the service of our students and their families.

The gifts and talents discovered during the middle school years deserve to be developed in the best possible educational environments. Students have the potential make positive contributions to society as educated, informed adults. Further, they bring the unique insights and experiences of their racial or ethnic heritage to the educational environment and to their professional careers.

OLG Graduate Support Program

Preparing for high school and higher education begins the first day of school for new OLG students and continues throughout their time at Our Lady of Guadalupe Middle School. The entire OLG learning community is involved in this process.

OLG Graduate Support:

The OLG Graduate Support Program works with 8th graders and serves as a source of academic help and guidance for OLG graduates in high school and beyond. The goals are personal growth, preparation for life-long learning and integration of education, values, and spirituality.

OLG Grade 8:

Students in the 8th grade participate in a “Preparing for High School Class.” This class discusses good study techniques; it develops skills in research, note taking and time management; it promotes higher level thinking skills. To ensure readiness for high school entrance and placement examinations, special emphasis is given to standardized testing skills. (Significantly, this year’s test scores are much higher than past years!) Graduate Support also works closely with each 8th grader and her parents in their selection of a quality high school and the search for scholarships and tuition assistance.

OLG Graduates

Once OLG graduates enter high school, academic resources, tutoring, and support is provided through the efforts of the Graduate Support Program. Parental authorization is given to the Graduate Support coordinator to obtain student progress reports and grades, meet with counselors, teachers, and administration, and offer personal and academic guidance to graduates.

The Graduate Support Coordinator visits the homes of graduates for meetings with parents and graduates. Also, Graduates are invited to come to the OLG Graduate Center after school and one Saturday a month. At Our Lady of Guadalupe School, two rooms are designated as the Graduate Support Center Areas. One room is available for relaxation, graduate interactions, and healthy refreshments. The second is equipped with a learning materials, study and tutoring work areas, top of the line computer technology, and Internet access. Graduate Support Coordinator visits the homes of graduates for meetings with parents and graduates.

Graduating Seniors-OLG Class of 2004

Here’s an update on OLG's very first class, the OLG graduating class of 2004. Some of these OLG 2004 graduates entered OLG in 2000 as fifth graders. Together with faculty, staff, and under the wonderful leadership of Mary Ann Perrone this group helped launch the school. Presently, OLGs class of 2004 is in their senior year of high school.

Nikkei A is graduating on May 17.

Throughout high school Nikkei has taken challenging classes and has earned high grades. Nikkei moved to western state for her senior year. Because of stringent residency requirements, in-state tuition is not yet available to her. True to her beautiful spirit, Nikkei plans to earn the needed money for tuition. After graduation she is going to college for two months of training, and then will work in a hospital until she earns enough to pay for her tuition at the university.

Brunnie G moved to Florida

right after her graduation from Our Lady of Guadalupe. Since then she has remained in contact with her class and Graduate Support via email. Brunnie is a wonderful student and has maintained a noteworthy academic record at her high school. We did contact her recently to give us an update but she has not yet responded. When we hear from her we hope to share her good news with you.

Socorro N is graduating on June 13.

Socorro has been very happy in high school. She brings a great spirit to the school and is well respected by students and faculty. Also, Socorro has earned an impressive academic record. Socorro especially excels in art, drafting, and computer drawing. She want to become and interior designer and an interior decorator. Socorro is accepted at Henry Ford Community College. There she plans to get a good foundation in her field, and then will transfer to a four year college.

LaTrina S is graduating on July 8.

LaTrina works hard in school and her grades have been consistently above average. Wayne State University is her school of choice, and she is eagerly awaiting her acceptance letter. One of LaTrina’s many gifts is her relational skill. When LaTrina enters a room she lights it up with happiness! Another gift is a compassionate, generous heart. LaTrina is committed to helping others and is involved in service projects.

Erica V is graduating on June 3.

Erica has been an honor roll student for four years at her school. In addition, she has been a National Honor Society member each year. Membership in this esteemed academic organization is the highest honor that can be given to a high school student! Four different colleges have already accepted Erica: Wayne State University, Davenport University, Oakland University, and U of M Dearborn. Erica plans to attend Wayne State University and hopes to major in Nursing and Anesthesiology and to minor in Accounting. During the summer Erica hopes to get a job at a nearby bank.
