Welcome to Our Lady of Guadalupe's Graduate Support!

By way of introduction: Our Lady of Guadalupe Middle School puts the expertise of its well-educated staff and supporters as well as its connections to quality secondary and higher education at the service of our students and their families.

The gifts and talents discovered during the middle school years deserve to be developed in the best possible educational environments. Students have the potential make positive contributions to society as educated, informed adults. Further, they bring the unique insights and experiences of their racial or ethnic heritage to the educational environment and to their professional careers.

Graduating 8th Graders-OLG Class of 2008

The 8th Grade at OLG (Class of 2008) is selecting high schools that best meets their hopes and dreams. Detroit Cristo Rey High School is a school that works. It provides an outstanding academic program and meaningful employment with a salary that pays tuition. Our girls understand that other attendance at other Catholic schools would also require employment and considerable tuition assistance. Here’s where we are to date in the high school selection process:

Paloma to Mercy High and Toward a Bright Future

In June 2007, Paloma graduated from Our Lady of Guadalupe School where she was an honor roll student and a class leader. Her many gifts, insights, and funloving ways will be greatly missed at OLG.

Paloma T is one of two recipients of the Mercy High School tuition assistance award this year. Mercy High School is an outstanding Catholic college preparatory school for young women. The school provides an enriched curriculum that enables 99% of Mercy graduates to attend colleges or universities. The student body is made up of young women from over 60 metropolitan Detroit communities. This broad, inclusive base provides Mercy with a rich, multi-ethnic constituency from diverse, socio-economic backgrounds. The common thread among staff, students and parents is a commitment to academic excellence, cultural diversity and the integration of Mercy Values into daily life. Paloma will get a great education at Mercy and she will bring many gifts to the Mercy community.

Paloma

Here are some of Paloma’s thoughts as she prepares to go to Mercy High School:

Family: I have a wonderful Mother and Dad and two brothers and two sisters. I am the oldest. Family is very important to all of us. For my part, I never want to let my family down.

Our Lady of Guadalupe School: At Our Lady of Guadalupe School I learned how to get a great education and still have time to chill out with my friends. I learned a lot at Our Lady of Guadalupe and met great people in this school.

OLG Class of 2007: My OLG 2007 graduating class is very important to me. I especially value my class friendships. At times we struggled. During the year we all faced problems and disappointments-some more than others. But we worked difficulties through and were there for each other. I think as a class we were good for OLG and we ended the year very well.

Mercy High and the Future: My hopes are to get a good education at Mercy, to graduate, and to go on to the university. I want to become a pediatrician. Doing well at Mercy will make it possible for me to go to a great university where I can make my dreams of becoming a doctor true. One of my reasons for wanting to become a doctor is that as an older sister of two girls and two boys, I have seen my Mother struggle when one gets sick. I want to help other parents like mine by giving their children the medical support they need.

My fear is not being able to do something in life that will be useful to others in the world-if not in the world at least in the community. Growing up I’ve learned that we the kids are America’s future. We should have a say in it. Also, what we do and how we live should make a difference. That is why I want to keep kids healthy and it’s why I want to make the world a better, safer place for the next kids of the world.
