Welcome to Our Lady of Guadalupe's Graduate Support!

By way of introduction: Our Lady of Guadalupe Middle School puts the expertise of its well-educated staff and supporters as well as its connections to quality secondary and higher education at the service of our students and their families.

The gifts and talents discovered during the middle school years deserve to be developed in the best possible educational environments. Students have the potential make positive contributions to society as educated, informed adults. Further, they bring the unique insights and experiences of their racial or ethnic heritage to the educational environment and to their professional careers.

Graduating 8th Graders-OLG Class of 2008

The 8th Grade at OLG (Class of 2008) is selecting high schools that best meets their hopes and dreams. Detroit Cristo Rey High School is a school that works. It provides an outstanding academic program and meaningful employment with a salary that pays tuition. Our girls understand that other attendance at other Catholic schools would also require employment and considerable tuition assistance. Here’s where we are to date in the high school selection process:

Spotlight on a Graduate

Julia, OLG Class of 2006

When she was a student at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Julia S was an outstanding learner, a student leader, and a community builder. Truly, our school will forever be a better place because Julia was a member of the OLG student body!

In September 2006, when Julia entered her freshmen year at Cabrini High School she brought that same wonderful spirit to Cabrini. There she was a scholar-athlete. Her academic efforts put her on the honor roll every quarter. Her achievements in soccer and basketball made her a star athlete.

Recently, Julia was awarded a massive tuition assistance package to attend Sacred Heart Academy in Bloomfield Hills. Because of this achievement, Julia will be transferring from Cabrini High School to the Academy of the Sacred Heart. Julia’s award is the largest tuition assistance package in the history of any graduate moving from Our Lady of Guadalupe School to high schools of their choice.

A Glimpse at the Academy of the Sacred Heart

The Academy of the Sacred Heart is sponsored by the Religious of the Sacred Heart, one of the four sponsoring Catholic Sisters congregations of Our Lady of Guadalupe School. The Academy is one of the finest educational institutions in Michigan. Students come from 45 surrounding communities, bringing experiences from a wide range of socio-economic, racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Every student is important at the Academy of the Sacred Heart. The learning community adapts curriculum, student activities, prayer, retreat and extra curricular programs to challenge and maximize the potential of each student. Integrating educational research and best practices, students are prepared to take their places as leaders in the community, schools, corporations, institutions, and homes around the world.

The learning resources at the school are amazing. Most striking is the 44-acre campus that places students in a nature center, natural science areas, a skating pond, and in a new 31,000 square foot Field House with multiple new sports fields.

Julia’s Response

We asked Julia about this new development in her life and she responded, “To me as a Latina girl, this is the most wonderful of opportunities. I am grateful to God for this gift.” When Julia first heard about her acceptance at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, she was speechless. Then, she started crying tears of joy and as she cried she hugged her Mom for the longest time.

Julia adds, “I am grateful for the support of my parents, and for Ms. Wingard who first told my Mom about this opportunity, and for Sister Liz’s support, good advice, and help.

In the days to come Julia plans to do everything she can and take advantage of this wonderful educational opportunity. Her professional goal in life is to become a pediatrician.

Julia’s says that her immediate challenge is “starting over again in a totally new school.” “This is a little scary,” she says. However, it is clear to all of us that Julia’s anchor is faith not fear!
