Welcome to Our Lady of Guadalupe's Graduate Support!
By way of introduction: Our Lady of Guadalupe Middle School puts the expertise of its well-educated staff and supporters as well as its connections to quality secondary and higher education at the service of our students and their families.

The gifts and talents discovered during the middle school years deserve to be developed in the best possible educational environments. Students have the potential make positive contributions to society as educated, informed adults. Further, they bring the unique insights and experiences of their racial or ethnic heritage to the educational environment and to their professional careers.
Graduating 8th Graders-OLG Class of 2008
The 8th Grade at OLG (Class of 2008) is selecting high schools that best meets their hopes and dreams. Detroit Cristo Rey High School is a school that works. It provides an outstanding academic program and meaningful employment with a salary that pays tuition. An Interview with Everlin, a Star Pupil
George V. Murray Scholarship and Mercy High
Everlin G, age 13, has been awarded the George V. Murray Scholarship for 2007. She is a member of the 2007 graduating class of Our Lady of Guadalupe School.
The George V. Murray Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding graduate of Our Lady of Guadalupe Middle School. Candidates must exhibit scholastic achievement, financial need and submit written essays describing their goals and reasons for wanting to attend a Catholic High School.
[For additional information regarding George V. Murray Foundation and its scholarship program, go to www.GVMFoundation.org]
Everlin is enrolled at Mercy High School, noted for its academic excellence, diverse learning community, and Catholic education. This school is sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, one of the four sponsoring congregations of Our Lady of Guadalupe School.

Speaking at Mercy Golf Outing
Here is Everlin's presentation given at the Mercy Sisters 14th Annual Side-by-Side Golf Outing. After giving this talk Everlin received a standing ovation!
Hi! My name is Everlin and I am a graduate from Our Lady of Guadalupe, Class of 2007. My Mom, my Dad, my three brothers and I live in Southwest Detroit. My parents have always taught us that whatever we do, we should do it in the best way we can; and that no matter what obstacle we face, big or small, easy or hard, it should not interfere with our goals. I take this to heart and always try to do my best in school, at home and everywhere else.
This past school year was my first year in a Catholic school. I always went to a public school. When I was applying at Our Lady of Guadalupe, I was a bit nervous. It was a very new school, but as the year went on I started getting used to everything and everyone. It’s a small school so I got to meet everyone. OLG has a 15-1 student-teacher ratio. Not just that. At Our Lady of Guadalupe we were in school from 8 am to 6 pm; we participated in Super Saturdays once a month; and we were involved in summer programs too. So there were many ways to get to know everyone.
At Our Lady of Guadalupe, teachers really care about students. This means a lot to me.
I have applied for Mercy High School and I was glad to know that they accepted me. I am bringing my George V. Murray Scholarship to Mercy. In addition, I am receiving tuition assistance. When I first visited Mercy, I saw that it was a great high school that would prepare me for college and beyond. I liked Mercy’s diversity in classes, sports, clubs and activities. It's a school that will help me develop physically, mentally and spiritually and help me reach my goals and dreams.
My mom always went to a Catholic school and she always has wanted me to go, too. To our family, religion is very important.
I would just like to thank you all for coming and supporting this great event. And in a special way, I want to thank you Sisters of Mercy for supporting Our Lady of Guadalupe. We appreciate all your support and generosity. I am happy and thankful to know that together we walk side by side. [End of presentation]
Goals and Dreams
Everlin has big dreams and aspirations. “I would like to go to college, and then get a PhD, maybe even at U of M or Stanford,” she said. “For a career, I would like to be a teacher who really cares about her students, like my OLG 8th grade teacher, Mrs. Rose Crowley. Her classes, especially reading, and the recent retreat she led, were wonderful. And also because I like to cook with my Mom, I would like to be a chef. "But,” she smiles proudly, “I would also like to be president of the United States!” Our Lady of Guadalupe Middle School is very proud of Everlin, and we believe she can easily be anything she wants to be.
OLG and Everlin’s family are grateful to the Sisters of Mercy and the annual Mercy Golf Outings for their ongoing support of the education all of our OLG students are receiving, and for the support given to the six OLG graduates enrolled at Mercy High School.
